Chennai's running season is tightly compressed into December through February, when the coastal heat and humidity drop enough for comfortable racing. The Chennai Marathon is the city's flagship event, with the iconic Marina Beach promenade serving as both a training ground and race route. Runners are concentrated in Adyar, Velachery, Anna Nagar, T. Nagar, and OMR, with the Old Mahabalipuram Road corridor hosting several club-organised events. Despite the short season, Chennai has one of South India's most passionate and disciplined running communities, with strong club culture and high marathon participation rates.
